Stocks edge upward for second session
The Dow rose 0.86 to 747.31 on Friday with gains in advances outnumbering declines about 4 to 3. The NYSE composite index edged up 0.07 to 48.67 as volume held around 20.12 million shares. The American Stock Exchange index gained 0.3 to 123.09 and NASDAQ finished at 101.95, up 2.4 points. The dollar firmed against major currencies amid a larger trade deficit and a 3.6 percent drop in January factory orders.
