Utility bill permits joint power efforts
The Maris Hall bill became law after the Senate overrode Gov. Otis Bowen's veto, allowing municipal and investor owned utilities to join with Kentucky firms to build plants and generate electricity. Supporters praised Sen. Teague and Sen. Edwards for passing the measure despite opposition from Jasper Democrat Joseph Bruggenschmidt, who argued it could affect litigation and interstate participation. The vote was 31 to 14 in the Senate.
