Ambassadors on Wheels complete 1500 mile tour to Alexandria
25 young men finished a 16 day bicycle trek from Colorado Springs to Alexandria covering up to 132 miles daily on 10 speed Schwinn bikes. The Ambassadors on Wheels, started by Dennis Ice with Dan Ice and Rev. Gary Colby, traveled with a truck trailer kitchen, bunked in church basements and 4-H grounds while raising Christian witness through Bible reading and street singing. The trip cost $45 per traveler and included high school juniors and servers.

President Nixon and Prime Minister Trudeau led ceremonies from Massena New York to Montreal marking a decade of Seaway water commerce. A 130 helicopter convoy carried dignitaries to events at Saint Helene island and the Monument to International Friendship and the Moses Saunders locks near Massena. Nixon called the Seaway an example for the world to follow and noted ties with the United States and Canada as neighbors.

Free Fair Opens Tonight In Anderson with Pony Races
Anderson Free Fair opens this evening with pony races as the first attraction. Frank Nealis says events run each night with rides, shows, and concession stands drawing thousands. Sunday 7 30 to 9 30 p m features a teen dance in the grandstand with music by the Reactions and Soul Serenaders. Monday at 8 p m Eldon Daniel Thrill Capades autos thrill show adds excitement. Head Start Program to Expand in Elwood This Summer
A Head Start preschool program for migrant children will be added to existing Community Action Council offerings in Elwood this summer. Funding comes from a $43,343 grant provided by the Office of Economic Opportunity and announced by Congressman David Dennis. The Elwood site will be housed in the First Presbyterian Church under CAC supervision.

Post Office Site Selected For Middletown
Middletown selects a 15300 square foot site on the east side of 8th Street near High Street for a new post office. The site chosen for public convenience, transport access and cost, to be built under the lease construction program and kept on local tax rolls. The USPS will invite bids soon for plans and specifications and the successful bidder will purchase land, construct the building, and lease it to the Department.

Columbus Avenue Work Planned Amid Summer Projects
City officials announced Friday that a complete rework of Columbus Avenue is planned for mid July. Crews will close lanes and reroute traffic while utilities are upgraded and resurfacing occurs. Detours will guide drivers to alternate routes as work proceeds.
