Resignation of Illinois Public Aid Chief Emerges in Kerner Era
Chairman C Virgil Martin of the Illinois Public Aid Commission resigned with Governor Kerner accepting. Martin cited budget cuts and alleged scapegoating of relief recipients as part of the financial crisis. He requested the effective date be no later than July 15 and praised by Kerner as a good public servant. The IPAC faces a multimillion shortfall in funds for the 1962 63 period and a study to strengthen welfare administration was urged.
