Burial Under Wrong Name Is Suspected
In Cairo a grave believed to hold the remains of the missing American student Donald Shannon was exhumed on family request. U.S. Consul Gordon Firth and a Navy dentist sought positive ID by dental x ray after four decomposed bodies were found in the Nubian Desert following a failed July expedition. The party included guide Ahmed Akid and explorers John Armstrong and two French youths. The discovery raised the possibility that Shannon may be buried under the native guide’s name.
