Indiana Senator Richard Lugar helped lead a filibuster with Orrin Hatch that defeated the Labor Law Reform Act. The Senate sent the bill back to committee, a move likely killing the measure. Lugar described the act as a narrow special interest bill and said Americans preferred broader issues. He gained prominence as he coordinated daily briefings and drew praise from some leadership while facing others.
