Hart Quits Assembly Seat Amid Tax Reform Turmoil

Indianapolis millionaire Hart, head of the House Ways and Means Committee, announced his resignation from the state legislature over a rental agreement dispute. An old 1905 conflict of interest law was deemed antiquated, prompting Attorney General Sendak to issue an opinion. Hart said pressure and the need to clean up state business justify stepping down as the tax restructuring program moves forward. The vacancy will be filled under a 1973 law governing such appointments.
