South Bend Human Relations Commission launched a formal inquiry into a downtown hall riot that left two teen boys shot and others bitten by police dogs. Charles B. Hipsak, 20, was held on aggravated assault charges as officers investigated broken windows and property damage.
London AP reports Prince Charles will spend the upcoming summer vacation from Cambridge University studying the workings of government ministries. The initiative aims to prepare him for his investiture as Prince of Wales next year, with a week at the Welsh Office cited as part of the program.
U.S. FDA asked a federal court in Dallas to restrain Lanpar Co from distributing 32 diet and thyroid digitalis drugs in interstate commerce. The government says the pills are misbranded and unsafe, with doctors warning the medications can cause heart poisoning and untimely death. Seizures have already occurred as part of enforcement against the Lanpar obesity treatment.
Reports say a crowd of about 20 clashed outside a dance hall after a disturbance with White and Negro youths. Police used dogs to disperse the group. two were wounded and others injured as bricks were thrown and windows smashed. An 18 year old, Charles E. Hipsak, was arrested on aggravated assault charges related to the event. James Neely, 17, was taken in critical condition to Memorial Hospital. Wallace Cole, 18, listed in fair condition with an arm wound.
The Air Force announced a revised policy requiring a one year tour for pilots and air crew flying over North Vietnam or in South Vietnam, with applicability to duties beginning July.
