Migration of Ag Workers Nears for Indiana Harvest
Indiana expects a normal migrant worker level for canning crops but may face a plant labor shortage. William L. Davis of the Indian Employment Security Division said out-of-state workers are hard to obtain and Indiana workers are insufficient. He noted women often peel tomatoes in plants. Currently, there are more migrant workers than needed as crews arrived early. The migrant workforce is projected to peak slightly above 10,000 this summer, over 85 percent from the Rio Grande Valley, Texas.
