Marion County Sheriff Robert ONeal alters run for governor race in Indianapolis. He attended a Sunday meeting and had been a candidate for the Democratic nomination. ONeal placed second on the ticket in the governor race while leading events in Marion County.
A Sunday crash on Ind 67 near Policy Street killed Britt Bell and a Leighton youth and fatally injured a third person. The wreck involved a towing trailer and a car, with victims identified as Britt Bell and a Middletown senior. two others died at St John’s Hospital, including a Leighton youth. Police, ambulances, and several funeral homes coordinated the response as survivors were treated and arrangements made.
The Church of God convention in Anderson features three daily services, ministerial assemblies, and a wide range of institutes led by leaders from Anderson and nationwide. Murley Jane Zennung 73 of Anderson died Sunday at St John s Hospital after months of illness. She lived on Rt 2 and was involved with the 504th Army Reserve unit from Bluffton. Funeral arrangements at Baker Brothers with burial at East Maplewood Cemetery. Survivors include six sons and 36 grandchildren. George infant died at St John s Hospital after birth, survived by parents, siblings, and grandparents. graveside service held at East Maplewood Cemetery. Vera Shoop 51 of Muncie died suddenly in Sayre Pennsylvania. husband Clayton Shoop and son Thurman Walker among survivors. Joseph Zeigler formerly of Anderson died in Hollywood California. longtime business figure later owner of Zeigler Manufacturing in Alexandria. Indiana political notes mention advisory platform drafting in Indianapolis with various organizations. Los Angeles connections noted.
Elwood Indiana Gilbert Austin Balser 82 of 2518 Main St died Monday evening after a brief illness. A native of Tipton County he worked at Corning Glass Works before retiring. He married Olive Tyner in 1901 who died in 1944. Funeral services Wednesday at 10 30 a m at Copher and Fesler Funeral Home with Rev Fay Locke officiating. Interment Elwood City Cemetery. He is survived by his stepdaughter Grace Tyner.

Forecasters warn of a continuing heat wave from June 9 with above normal temperatures and a chance of showers Friday to Monday. Nine drownings are reported across Indiana and nearby states, including John Culver in Indianapolis, James Barnley in Louisville, Joseph Watson in Louisville, and George Bloom near Pry Sound. Benjamin F. Wright, 86, of 224 W 7th St Flint Mich and son of William B Wright died last night at the McLaren Hospital after a year of illness. He leaves a daughter Mrs M E Nast and W Franklin Wright of Anderson three grandchildren Richard Nash James and Wilma Wright and two great grandchildren. His wife Anna Fila Wright died a year ago. He was a longtime contractor in the family business and grandson of Rev Benjamin Franklin founder of Central Christian Church. Albright Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Merle Hedrick 38 former resident died suddenly Saturday in a Peoria hospital. He served in World War I overseas. Body taken to Condo and Son Funeral Home Wilkinson. Services Tuesday at 2 p.m. burial in Harlan Cemetery. Survived by sisters Mildred Walls Indianapolis Minnie Bennett Redlands California and brothers Arthur Middletown and James Nennara.
Weekend blaze at a farm of tenant John W. Marsh forced Dianna Marsh to drive a tractor and gear to safety. The fire wrecked tables and booths for the Lord's Acres Festival at the Methodist Church and damaged equipment in a repair shop. Pipe Creek was unable to halt the flames.
