Nuggets Open ABA Draft Nab Webster
New York AP Denver Nuggets last season's West Division champions in the ABA drafted 7-foot Marvin Webster from Morgan State along with seven college and high school players and voiced confidence they could sign him. Nuggets GM Carl Scheer and coach Larry Brown said negotiations would begin immediately after recent meetings with Webster and agent Norman Mass. The team also noted they bypassed David Thompson and expected to compete for Webster's rights with Atlanta and St Louis. Willoughby, a high school standout, was selected in the second round, with Malone and others casting an eye toward pro careers as the ABA draft moved through rounds.
