Indiana faces possible loss of federal highway funds
The federal government will pay most of the program. Indiana could lose about 9 million dollars annually in federal funds if controls are not in place by 1968. The Indiana Highway Department notes 39 538 signs within 660 feet of highway rights of way and 409 junkyards near routes must be screened or closed. Beautifying roads, required by federal law, may cost about 120 000 dollars with 75 percent covered by federal funds.
