Dulles Denies Making Girard Case Decision
U S Secretary of State Dulles denied he made or was consulted about turning over GI William S. Girard to a Japanese court. In a sworn affidavit, Dulles said he had no personal knowledge of events leading to Girard’s detention and would not testify. The hearing before Judge McGarraghy ended without a ruling, with deadlines set for additional citations and a speedy decision anticipated on jurisdiction in the dispute between U S and Japan over the case.

Harden Expects U S 36 Relocation Decision by July
Rep Cecil Harden says the relocation of U S 36 east of Hollandsburg should be decided by July to allow the Mans field Reservoir on Raccoon Creeks. A higher bridge and about 1.5 miles of new road are needed for the 1100 acre lake dammed in Parke County. Ground broke Oct 5 for the dam north of Ferndale, and a highway reroute decision will let property owners see how the 74 million dollar flood control project affects their land.
