Warning on junk autos prompts Pendleton police action
Pendleton residents hear at the town board meeting that state junk vehicle laws will be enforced. A junk car is defined by criteria including no license, prolonged public nuisance, and vehicles inoperable or abandoned on private property. Abandoned vehicles must be tagged, owner charged for disposal, and penalties include possible license suspension if charges aren’t paid. The meeting also covered water service prospects for Idlewold Gardens, traffic changes on Northcrest Drive, land sales near State Street, and a bid from Anderson Refuse Company for city trash pickup. Dog and cat pickups were noted as well.

Indicted Pair Freed On Bond In Fire Arson Case
Two more defendants named in a grand jury indictments were arrested and released on bond Tuesday. Larry W. Kincaid and Carl K. Kincaid face charges of arson related to a 21 fire at the Ft & J Sewer Inspection and Repair site in Alexandria. Authorities say property was destroyed with intent to defraud the insurer. The two surrendered at the county jail Tuesday. Alexandria teachers rejected a small salary increase in contract talks. The $200 raise equals 14 to 23 percent more than last year, with concerns about negotiation seriousness and a state fact-finder. The next negotiation session is set for Monday, June 4. In Beverly Hills, actress Louise Lasser was placed in a six month drug diversion program after cocaine possession charges. She must return for a progress report on December 7.

Bypass Project Delays and Lane Shifts Across River Links
Federal funding delays and Congress designed redesigns slowed the highway bypass project for years. New bridges over White River and Killbuck Creek, completed last year, enable traffic shifts as two northbound lanes are built first while population and property owners push for storm drainage and right of way adjustments. Traffic will remain on existing lanes until the northbound lanes are finished, then diverts as southbound work continues.
