U S May Buy Red Gas in Major Soviet Deal
A protocol of intent signed by Occidental Petroleum and El Paso Natural Gas to buy up to 2 billion cubic feet of Russian gas daily over 25 years would, if realized, help fill the U.S. energy gap. Deliveries could start in about six years with a large Vladivostok liquefaction plant and a 2,000 mile Siberian pipeline, financed partly with foreign capital.
