McGovern seeks Muskie support at Democratic convention
McGovern pressed Muskie for backing at the Democratic convention as the race against Nixon continued. Muskie aides said the talks were cordial, with both senators expressing mutual aim to defeat Nixon while avoiding a disruptive, divisive campaign. Humphrey, Wallace, and other figures surfaced as possible influences, but no decisive delegate release occurred.
