Wall Street fell as McGovern won California's Democratic presidential primary signaling a serious bid for the nomination. The Dow dropped 7.38 to 944.08 with most sectors down while airlines and tobaccos rose and profit taking weighed on the market.
Strong demand driven by speculators pushed soybeans futures up about 5 percent on the Chicago Board of Trade Wednesday. Soybean meal gained near 1.50 a ton and soy oil up about 15 points. Wheat edged up early then closed mixed. corn and oats finished higher modestly. A large group of speculators bought soybeans at the opening, lifting prices, then a small selloff followed.
