Indiana Bell Announces Rate Cuts and Suburban Zone Service

Indiana Bell officials said a rate reduction is possible due to equipment, methods, and skilled staff gains. The plan includes adding equipment to ensure suburban zone service across all exchanges lacking it, with $143.00 in savings from the expansion already approved by the commission. July 6 will see discontinuation of mileage charges for 20,000 outlying customers, replacing them with zone rates. Four-party service will be extended to more exchanges, while current four-party users at existing addresses retain service. The FSC study projects two years of revenues and expenses, backing the new rates expected to benefit 690,000 families and about 30,000 mileage-charge payers with annual cuts and zone-rate shifts.
