Elwood painter Jesse James Nichols, 62, died of a heart attack Thursday while painting a barn roof on the J. W. Mount farm four miles northwest of Goldsmith. Mrs. Nichols assisted him. he had worked as a painter for many years. Funeral arrangements are pending with York and Wright Funeral Home, Elwood. Burial will be at Elwood Cemetery pending Saturday funeral.
An aide to Rep. John Beamer of Indiana said Beamer will seek re election in 1958. Williams, the congressman's assistant, said Beamer who had a heart attack last April will not return to Washington this year. He was born in Anderson on March 9 1895, son of Mont and Nettie Nichols. His marriages were to Grace Davis who died years ago and to direceia Critics. The note lists children and relatives in Anderson Elwood and Indianapolis and notes doctors want him out of Congress this year to be in top shape for the next session.
Police warn all businesses of stolen money orders cashed across Indiana and Ohio by rubber firms and unions. Detectives report about 112 money orders have been cashed since June with five in Indiana and two in Anderson around July and June. Authorities say forged signatures and a ring may be involved and caution is urged when cashing money orders. An 8-year-old girl was detained for issuing a fraudulent $30 check.
Kiel Germany reports a powerful French antitank rocket demonstrated to West German officials could be fired around 90 degree corners with a 4800 foot range. The 33 pound device uses optical guidance and a rear electrical wire. West Germany has ordered 4000 units and several plants across the US are noted for wage settlements.
Obituary notices report Nellie Dilk 66 of Osgood died Wednesday at home. Survivors include husband Omer and sons Jim Roscoe and Edis Dilk, plus siblings and grandchildren. Also listed are Edward Lawson 84 of Rt.3 died Tuesday. Leatha Hilligoss 85 of 1103 W 4th, and John King 42 of Birmingham formerly of Anderson. Services and burial details noted.
Rep Harvey told Purdue Agriculture Alumni Seed Improvement Assn at field day that federal farm aid will shift within one to two years to single commodity programs rather than broad across the board supports. He, a Henry County farmer, said grain groups will push new approaches and corn’s weight in Indiana and the Midwest demands strong representation in future conferences.

Fort Worth Texas reports the prolonged survival of 62 year old Bill Turner after a heat stroke or brain injury caused fever over 109 degrees. He was cooled in an ice tub and then treated with water-cooled blankets. Doctors say no known similar case. He remained unconscious since Friday with fever near normal.
William Allen, 25, admitted his story of killing two El Segundo officers was a lie to avoid Chicago and St. Louis prosecutors. Oakland police say he confessed after six hours of questioning and will be extradited to face robbery and escape charges.
In Baltimore Miss Mary Callie Hill filed a $30,1000 suit against dethroned Miss United States Mary Leona Gage and Walters Academy and Fashion Guild alleging manipulation of the Miss Maryland contest results. Hill, sponsor of the Miss Maryland event, accuses the defendants of sabotaging her opportunity to profit from the pageant.
