Indiana Seeks Kentucky Aid On 3 Bridges
Indiana plans to involve Kentucky in funding three Ohio River toll bridges Mauckport Cannelton and Lawrenceburg with costs up to 20 million. Gov Handley told a joint meeting of highway officials that Kentucky would cover about a quarter of the cost while tolls would repay the others. A feasibility study will refine costs and traffic projections once Kentucky agrees. Ferry service currently serves Mauckport Cannelton and Lawrenceburg where bridges are proposed.

The 1-nation General Assembly session adjourned indefinitely after a 1¢4 vote. Council President Alfonso Aratujo of Colombia urged openness to settlement talks. Eisenhower signaled support for a Security Council summit if major powers agree, while Macmillan would attend no concrete plan without big-power agreement. A Japanese compromise resolution proposed bolstering the Lebanon observer group to curb arms and troops from Nasser’s United Arab Republic, with Hammarskjold given wide discretion to widen the mission.

Defense funding split fuels Army force size dispute
The House and Senate debate defense funding with the Army set to 200000 active personnel, National Guard 40000, reserves 300000, and Marines 200000 unless a two thirds vote overturns. McElroy warned spending might not follow appropriations, amid Middle East crisis shifts and a $3814 million bill surpassing Eisenhower’s request. The Senate subcommittee plans further closed hearings after initial passage. The Salvation Army reports 491 senior bands and over 6000 members in the U.S.
