Indiana couple jailed for child torture in Vigo County case

Terre Haute Indiana AP A Vigo County couple Harry Smith and Evelyn Smith were sentenced to prison for complicity in torturing Zelda Darlene Herman and her siblings during 1963. Police records show 1059 traffic accidents in six months with 167 in June. testimonies described beatings with hot stove, nails, sticks and ropes. Zelda’s nine siblings have been placed in homes or institutions.
