Police arrested Roosevelt Love for second degree murder in the Jan. 3 death of Richard Tellis found shot in the El Morocco bar restroom. The weapon, linked to a recent burglary, was recovered from a van after a traffic stop.

Indiana House approves ERA ratification resolution

The Indiana House passed HJR 1 calling for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment and sent it to the Senate after a party line vote. Noting uncertain Senate prospects, the Associated Press survey said ERA may fall seven votes short of the 26 needed.

Red Robinson Dies in Anderson At 69

Anderson attorney Maurice G Red Robinson longtime GOP figure and Indiana official died Monday at Community Hospital He was 69 Robinson served on the Indiana Board of Bar Examiners and the Anderson Community School Board since 1969 He coached at centersville High School and played professional basketball He studied at Wabash Harvard and earned Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Chi honors He left survivors including widow Marye Jayne Johnstone two daughters a son five grandchildren and a brother Funeral services were set for Wednesday at Rozelle Funeral Home with a eulogy by Justice Donald Hunter Burial followed at West Maplewood Cemetery

Anderson council approves electric rate hike and fuel cost update

An ordinance ratifying a 10-15 percent base rate increase by the Anderson municipal electric utility passed two readings in a special session. Final readings are planned, with rates effective Jan 24, and the fuel cost adjustment will be updated to reduce revenue by about three dollars per two million collected.

GM to trim 500 to 1000 pounds on most models

General Motors plans a $3 billion program over four years to downsize cars across Buick, Pontiac, Chevrolet, and Cadillac with a target weight cut of 500 to 1000 pounds. The lighter Cadillac debuts this April shedding about 1000 pounds and a 350 cubic inch engine.
