Blizzard's Struggle Through Indiana Deep Freeze 1978
In Anderson and surrounding areas the historic blizzard of 1978 paralyzed roads and overwhelmed services. National Guard amories, motels, and firehouses ran at capacity as hundreds sought fuel, medicine, and shelter, while police and volunteers rescued more than 100 people. Utilities reported few outages due to quick repairs, hospitals remained short staffed, and schools, banks, and many businesses closed for days as crews battled 40 mph winds and subzero chills.
