Elwood couple jailed again over child neglect case
Ina Mae Starrett and James A. Sherman, both of 2008 S P St Elwood, were ordered to serve two more weeks in jail after a probation violation hearing. They pleaded guilty last October to one count of cruelty and neglect of children and had their earlier sentences suspended pending compliance with probation terms. They remain under a two year probation and earlier judgments required weekly classes and removal of the children from the home. An inspector described the home as deplorable with no running water and unsafe conditions.
