West Anderson police pursue break in and assault suspect
Police investigators hunt a dark skinned male in his early 20s after a late Thursday break in on the west side. The intruder broke in at 16th and Forkner, accosted two women, threw a crippled owner to the floor, and attempted a rape before fleeing on foot. A burglary and robbery pair were later arrested nearby as officers pursued multiple leads. A 21 year old man was injured in a separate two car crash on West 38th Street.

Anderson CD program to hold public improvement sessions

City man committed to veterans hospital
Judge Carl Smith ruled that 50-year-old Howard Daves be temporarily committed to Cold Springs Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis after a December 18 incident in which he barricaded himself at 2429 Central Ave and fired about 30 rounds from a .22 rifle. Police said the dispute with his wife and the couple’s son preceded the shooting as officers arrived and Daves kept firing toward those outside. Dr D Webb testified at the hearing and Mrs Daves testified as a witness on the commitment petition.

Three-vehicle crash on southeast side prompts police report
Police reports describe a three vehicle collision on the Ind 109 bypass near the 4300 block with West and Kuhn losing control after lane changes. Miller, West, and Kuhn faced injuries. West was cited for an improper turn while others refused treatment. Local burglary on far east side reported with coins and an AM EM stolen. Correction issued re location of an appliance center theft at 1605 W Eighth St and bandits taking cash and checks.

Tragic Indiana crash claims life kit. several injured
A icy highway crash in eastern Indiana killed Shirley A. Shaw, 27, as her car was struck broadside by a second vehicle. Seven others were injured, including the driver Vickie Nolte, 30, and Henry County official Mark Frame who were among those treated and released. A pickup then struck a police car. Coroner Frame and Middletown Marshal Kim Cronk were among the injured. In a separate incident a South Bend woman Leona Zeithaml, 65, died in a wrong way collision downtown. her husband Francis Zeithaml, 67, was injured.
