Elvis tribute weekend marks Presley birthday in Memphis
Elvis Presley fans flock to Memphis for a weekend tribute on what would have been his 43rd birthday. Wreaths shaped like musical notes and broken hearts were laid at his gravesite as an Elvis festival began at the Orpheum Theater with a 30 hour nonstop film series. The Cook Convention Center hosts an Elvis extravaganza with films, TV specials and 65 exhibits, while Presley memorabilia including his 1956 Cadillac and a tape recorder are displayed. Hotels in the Whitehaven area report full bookings for fans, and police will monitor crowds to avoid lewd acts amid the Sex Pistols concert nearby.
