Indiana GOP pushes 30 percent property tax assessment cut
Indiana officials clash over a GOP plan to cut new real estate assessments by 30 percent. County assessors back the reduction, warning values will surge when the next reassessment occurs, while mayors and the State Chamber oppose it, saying it won’t help owners and could hamper bonds and be unconstitutional. House leaders urge passage to curb tax base growth, though locals warn higher rates may follow.
