In Hammond Indiana Judge Luther Byars sentenced Leo Shorten of Gary to 69 years on six narcotics charges in federal court. The sentences run concurrently, yielding a total term over 20 years. Shorten pled guilty to heroin importation possession and sale. agents bought 850 grains of heroin last summer. Shorten’s wife Mildred also pled guilty to two counts and received two five year terms.
Robert Led Drake, 77, died suddenly at his home, 152 Sherman St., after a heart attack. He is survived by a sister, Mrs Celia Drake Alderson, four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The body will be sent to Underwood, Maine, for final arrangements. Wheat exports in 1936 are estimated at 400,000,000 bushels, about twice the 1935 total.
Obituary notices the death of John Teeter aged 22 in Elwood with services planned at Franktoy Christian Church and burial at K of P Cemetery. Survivors include widow Nellie a daughter Sarah Jane Huston of Alexandria and three stepchildren plus grandchildren.

Surviving include parents, brother George, two sisters Gerchiina and Joyce, paternal relatives in Mississippi and Chicago, thirteenaunts, two great aunts, and a funeral held at Pleasant Walk Cemetery conducted by L. Miles. Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her husband Cecil a son a daughter Mrs Martha Fisch of Cleveland Ohio four grandchildren her mother Mrs Mary Brand Brockway Pa two brothers James and Jane and a sister Mrs Mary Malian Tinckway.
