Cooper and Conrad Named For Gemini Seven Day Flight

Cooper from Shawnee Oklahoma and Charles Conrad Jr. of Philadelphia are chosen as primary crew for the seven day Gemini mission this year. Backup crews include Neil Armstrong and Elliot Lee Jr. The record-setting flight aims to test long duration space travel with a 50 pound pod and multiple experiments.

Anderson High students launch finance drive for AFS exchange

Anderson High School students began a seven day fundraising campaign to support the American Field Service foreign exchange program for next year. The drive follows last year’s success when about $1,900 was raised to host two foreign students, Virginia Ferrando of Argentina and Bulent Altinkok of Turkey, with past participants from Japan and Italy.

Beating Victim Brooks Braxton Reports Four Suspects

William Charles Grace, 2018, was arrested on a warrant after Braxton, 17, of 907 Sycamore St, told deputies he was beaten by four companions while riding in a car. Braxton was found on a county road north of Anderson and treated at Community Hospital. Grace had pleaded guilty in City Court last week to theft, fined 5 and six months suspended to the state farm on good behavior.

Mrs Melvina Olson Dies at 52 in Anderson

Mrs. Melvina R. Olson 52 died suddenly Monday at her home 23 W 21st St. She moved to Anderson nine years ago from Detroit and worked in Woolworths personnel department. A Knightstown native born July 30 1907 she was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters Frances Liff and three grandchildren and three sisters Edna Allen Mary Burke and Catherine Kellum.
