City officials report the Centrex and ERTS systems are operating smoothly after a weekend install. technicians note minor mechanical issues and human error as operators adjust, with direct dialing reducing response times and enhancing emergency contact reliability.
GM will close 12 of its 25 assembly plants for two days early next year to meet market needs and shifting customer preferences for different exports. Six plants will shut Jan 3 and Jan 5, while six others close Jan 20 and Feb 2. Regular schedules continue at remaining plants.
In a special Madison unit ed school board session a 45 passenger bus contract was awarded to Twin City Thovraket Company at Gas City for 9 244 271 dollars with 4456 69 for chassis and 4898 02 for remodeling. A Chesterfield man named David Sturgeon died when gasoline exploded while he was repairing an auto. Neighbors recall him working on the vehicle at his home. The incident occurred December 2 and is being investigated by local authorities.
In Alexandria early Tuesday a burglary at the Yule jot Clubhouse led to the arrest of Lester Nicely, 20, on third degree burglary charges after a 3 mile pursuit.
