India Ends Pact on U S Military Supply Aircraft
New Delhi terminated a two year old agreement allowing United States military aircraft to refuel in India. Parliament was told the government was not obligated under the Vienna Convention to permit such flights and no reason was given for the action which took effect in October. A U S Embassy spokesman said no particular hardship occurred as most supplies arrived by ship. The deputy foreign minister added such overflight permission would be granted only in special cases on merit.
