High Court Ends Compulsory Chapel at Military Academies
The Supreme Court unanimously refused the government’s appeal to restore compulsory chapel at West Point Annapolis and the Air Force Academy ending religious services for cadets and midshipmen. The ruling upholds a First Amendment restriction on establishment of religion. The decision also tackles access to Irish Northern Aid Committee records and several environmental and labor cases, with dissents by Marshall Douglas and Brennan on related points.
