Revised Plans For Generating Plant Okayed
INDIANAPOLIS AP Revised plans for using Kankakee River water at the Northern Indiana Public Service Co. generating plant were approved by the Indiana Natural Resources Commission. The plant near Indiana 49 and the Jasper Porter county line will triple the size of a settling basin to 228 acres to cool water and maintain river flow. The utility agreed to close the plant if it cannot return as much water as it takes out. Engineers say water quality will not be affected for Illinois users. Commissioner James Lahey of South Bend called the solution reasonable.
