Three Indiana Teams Win Judging Honors
At the National Junior Horticulture Association convention in Cincinnati Indiana teams swept top awards. Barbara Meusing of Kendallville was the high individual scorer with 161 points from 15 states. Dennis Baitz of Atlanta in Hamilton County led in the Future Farmers of America competition. The Hamilton County FFA team included Baitz Bil Shaffer Cicero and Dick DaBler. Noblesville first in 4H went to Ben Davis High School with Brenda Bynum Don Daily and Joe Cline. Noble County Open division winners included Meusing Connie Miller and Jane Pankop. Other Indiana winners were Jane Siegesmund Rex W Hopper La Porte first in family pros. Rex W Hopper RR 1 Bunker Hill first in production and marketing canning and James A Deutsch Newburgh first in experimental horticulture.

A $1,000 reward was posted for information on the whereabouts of Edgar C. Harper, elderly banker, and his daughter, missing since Sunday from Lewisburg. John W. Harper of Columbus, Ind., offered the reward and urged contact with authorities. Mrs. Eustice Givens, who had come to care for her father, is also missing. her car and her purse were found at the home. Harper is president of Lewisburg Banking Co and owns farms and oil wells.

An inquest is set for Wednesday into the death of 45 year old Mrs. Janice Pirtle whose body was found on a couch at her Linton home Greene County. Coroner Charles Greves says autopsy shows she died from a hemorrhage due to a head injury. Her husband Max found her at about 4 am Thursday after she had been well when he went to bed Wednesday night while she did paperwork for his clothing store.

Gary Indiana detectives identified two slain youths as Dwight Burke 16 and Carlos Reeves 18 from Flint Michigan. The victims were shot in the head and dumped on Gary streets a year ago as police pursued links to an auto theft ring operating between Flint and Chicago.
