Car Train Crash Near Anderson Injures Five

After a Sunday night crash just west of the city limits, Patricia Ogle and two passengers were hospitalized in fair to poor condition. Witnesses say brake lights activated before the Chevrolet skidded onto a crossing and was struck by a Con Rail freight train traveling about 43 mph. Authorities cite snow and ice on the road and possibly worn left tires as factors under investigation.

Mrs Greenough Led Indiana LWV Across Decades

Mrs Greenough served as state chairman in 1919 to organize the Indiana Women’s Franchise League and chaired the first citizenship school in 1881. She led the Indiana LWV as president in 1822 and 1929, sat on its board 1920-50, and presided over Indianapolis LWV twice. A National League of Women Voters board member 1992-39, she edited The Women Vater and authored study pamphlets. Burial planned in Leland, Michigan. two sons survive. Funeral home in Belleair Bluff, Florida.

County to Present Tax Appeal Next Tuesday

Area officials plan to travel to Indianapolis to argue for tax rates above frozen limits after the State Board narrowed 1978 figures. Riverside Auto Parts settlement eyed in long lawsuit

City attorney Marvin Clanin said a Riverside Auto Parts suit filed in 1964 over damage from an earth dam may settle for 5 000, with the Riverside firm seeking 18 000. Board approved the deal to go to the city council, while also granting a 20 foot right of way for four acres of city land at Ind 3 and County Road SQCN for road widening. The board declared a street cave in on Vanduskirk Road emergency after a deteriorated culvert caused Dec 6 closure and planned repairs if weather permits.
