Acceptance Of New Tune Is Puzzling
A New York report notes Winchester Cathedral tops charts for adults and youths alike though some dismiss it as dated. The single from The New Vaudeville Band, produced by Geoff Stephens, is praised for its catchy high nasal chorus and retro rhythm. The review compares versions by Palm Beach Band Boys and Lawrence Welk, calling the tune engaging and a sign of renewed melodic interest.
