Breast cancer bone tissue link spotted by Philadelphia doctors
Philadelphia researchers Dr N David Charkes and Dr Charles Sklaroff report a method using radioactive calcium to detect microscopic metastasis in bone from breast cancer. In 64 women studied, early bone involvement was found before symptoms, suggesting metastasis can precede standard diagnosis and may affect surgical decisions for about 3,000 patients expected to undergo radical breast removal this year.
