Kolams Carry On as Life in Kshetrapalapuram Slowly Changes

In Kshetrapalapuram, a 2,800 resident village in Tamil Nadu, traditional life centers on farming and kolams drawn with white powder. Women shift from rice powder to chalk, while caste hierarchies persist, schooling reaches about half the children, and most girls wed early. The village remains agrarian with bullock plows and simple thatch homes, contrasted by a few brick houses and coconut trees. Public routines include daily baths, meals, and evening tea shop chatter, criticized for excessive talk by local workers.
