Cuban Refugee Airlift Begins From Miami

The United States launches the largest refugee airlift in history to bring anti Castro Cubans to the U S. Planes will deliver 2000 to 4000 refugees monthly, with a yearly cap near 48600 as federal officials prepare in Miami amid concerns the influx will strain the local economy and city resources. Priority is given to Cubans with relatives already in the United States.

Moon Color Glows Filmed by Amateur Astronomers

A group of amateur astronomers photographed mysterious color glows on the moon’s surface. NASA stated the glow was seen in the Aristarchus crater for four hours before daylight on November 15 using a 16 inch telescope from Port Tobacco, Maryland.

Freedom Shrine to be unveiled at Southside Junior High

The Anderson Exchange Club will present its sixth Freedom Shrine at 2 p.m. today in the Southside gym. Dale Leh nan, chairman of the club’s Freedom Shrine committee, announced the event. The shrine features replicas of 24 historic documents including Gettysburg Address, Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence. Max Beigh is club president. Reverend David Barclay also serves as a club member.

Communist forces attack near Da Nang in pre-dawn raid

Communist forces struck two South Vietnamese companies near Da Nang just before dawn, as U.S. special forces repelled a separate surprise raid on a camp killing 104 guerrillas. Officials said an estimated battalion opened fire with mortars recoilless rifles and machine guns, prompting air support and flare illumination.

Intoxication Draws City's Heaviest Fines In Court

City Court processed over 25 cases Tuesday including public intoxication and assault. The stiffest fine went to Gene Eldon Ward for driving while intoxicated, $75 plus costs, plus a one year license suspension. Two juveniles, Dale Sparks and Lawrence Lawson Jr, each received $25 fines and 180 days at Indiana State Farm, suspended on probation.

Ex-POWs land captors in Phnom Penh report

Two American captives Sgt George Smith and Spec Claude McClure praised their Viet Cong captors at a news conference in Phnom Penh. They described harsh years as prisoners of war and said their release followed U.S. protests against the Vietnam conflict. Smith blamed Saigon charges. Indiana School Reorganization Commission Sets Letters to Missing Counties

The Indiana School Reorganization Commission voted to send letters to 36 counties not yet reorganized, urging compliance with state law. Chair Bryce Bottom Winslow noted 56 counties completed plans and 21 were partial, with Perry County approved for a two unit plan joining by January 1 unless issues arise.
