Law enforcement across Madison County appealed for driver and pedestrian cooperation to observe Safe Driving Day aimed at reducing accidents on streets and highways today.
The United States and Soviet Union reached a package deal on the Outer Mongolia admission but Chiang Kai-shek's government reiterated its opposition and pledged to veto if needed. Eisenhower pressed two direct appeals to Generalissimo Chiang to avoid a veto, but the Nationalist stance remained firm despite the international effort.
Madison County Council schedules a two day session on December 14 and 15 to consider fund transfer requests from county offices and agencies. No new appropriations are planned. transfers aim to cover year end balances. Council president Earl Daugherty will preside.

Mrs. Esme Morgan testified in court that her husband mocked her hair and made a racist remark. The judge granted a divorce on cruelty grounds.
A Madison County family notes that a gas heater ad drew long distance calls after its publication in the Bulletin Herald. The paper touts its wide local coverage and buying power in the county. The heater is a 30 000 Btu auto with thermostat, used one winter, listed at 840. Call 5371 to place an ad with the Wanted Girl.
Anderson city and Guide Lamp division entries have been mailed to the National Fire Protection Association for the annual nationwide fire prevention contest. The city entry is led by Robert Lowe and Clarence Bowlin with Fire Chief Al Tibbetts and Assistant Chief Robert Grimes. The Guide Lamp division entry was supervised by safety director L. R. Kemp. Last year the city ranked high in several national and Indiana categories, with reports detailing fire prevention and Clean-up Week activities, inspections, and industrial fire prevention efforts.
Mrs Wendell C Kells city chair man of the Yale gifts drive said today is the last day for donations to the Christmas program for state mental hospital patients. She noted last year Anderson ranked second in the state and that this year’s response trails 1954. Gifts should be new and unwrapped and are being received at the Madison County Mental Health Association headquarters at the city utilities office.
Partly cloudy and warmer weather was forecast for most of Indiana today as the season's longest cold wave is set to melt. Highs around 33 degrees were observed in central Titans, with 24 hour readings from 11 to 26 degrees. Prospects for more snow Friday faded, with warmer weather and highs between 37 and 43 degrees expected. Thursday night lows were in the 20s. State Police reported mostly clear conditions.

Richard R. Tenneson, an American GI who chose Red China after the Korean War, was released and is expected to arrive home Thursday. The British Red Cross says the Chinese Red Cross informed them of his release, part of a group of 21 dissenters who sought to be accepted as free in Red China after denouncing U.S. conditions.
The Board for Public Works opened bids for curbs gutters grading and drainage on W 25th Street from Raible Ave to the city limits. Bids ranged from 323.55 to 19 574.20 with Ralph Reed and Son Company and Central Construction among bidders Rowe Engineering submitted bids for the project. City engineer and attorney to study these bids as recommendations for award will follow at next Tuesday night meeting. Attendees included John H. Burton Sr Paul Wykoff and Charles Hartley with minutes by Leata Heineman.
County Treasurer Walter Hays announced the courthouse office will reopen today for delinquent tax payments and purchase of intangible stamps. The drive follows a demand by John L. Lewis of the United Mine Workers to repay $1,665,000 in CIO loans, with $1,863,000 still due. The dispute centers on preparations for the CIO merger and related bond and tax settlements.
CHICAGO Republican leaders discussed the possibility that President Eisenhower would campaign mainly by television and radio if he seeks a second term. Leonard W. Hall said the decision may come in late February or early March after a heart attack and physical exam. The GOP plans about two million dollars in TV time in 1956, aiming for a peace and parity theme as the campaign shifts to electronic media.
Paris Reuters Premier Edgar Faure decided to dissolve the National Assembly after it voted no confidence and ordered new elections. A stormy cabinet meeting faced opposition from many Radical Socialist Party members as Faure aims to appeal directly to voters. Elections likely set for January 8 following Thursday decision.
A Pennsylvania Passenger train struck a large semi-trailer truck at the Jackson Street crossing shortly before 1 p.m. yesterday. The truck was driven by Maurice Brousse, 34, of Church Point, Louisiana, en route south on Jackson Street. No injuries were reported. train engine damage estimated at $700 and trailer damage at $600.
United States Soviet and U N officials met at United Nations in New York on Wednesday to resolve the crisis caused by Nationalist China's veto of Outer Mongolia’s bid for U N membership. Canada planned a resolution for admitting all 18 countries when the General Assembly committee discusses the issue.
A Markleville man, 26 year old Billy Jules Gaus, died in a crash at the Columbus Avenue Road and Indiana 67 intersection near Markleville around 2 am. He was driving south on Columbus Avenue when his car collided with a heavy loaded truck traveling east on Indiana 67. The truck was driven by La Verne Knotts of Vincennes and owned by Hamilton Glass Co. of Vincennes. The body was taken to Rector Funeral Home. Services are planned Friday at 2 pm there with no casket opening. The investigation was led by State Trooper Robert Baldwin and Sheriff Joe L. Brogdon.
At New Castle Indiana a passenger car was pinned under a truck. one death cited from skull fractures and multiple injuries. National Guard patrols were cut from 90 to 30 as troops to remain until strikers return to work at Perfect Circle Corp. Mayor and governor approval noted. page 3 continuation referenced.
