NAACP Picketing Continues At Two Cook's Super Markets

Mass picketing began this week at two Cook Super Market locations over alleged insensitivity to the black community. NAACP leader Ben Floyd says the stores profit from black customers and must repay the community. Cook counters most job seekers are minority, noting 38 employees with two black, and says hiring should be based on qualifications. He cites no meeting with the community and notes black managers were not promised. The NAACP says a fall survey showed 70 percent of shoppers were black and that token responses persist. A job line run with the Minority Employment Task Force has helped about 20 of 475 unemployed applicants.
