Agnew Faces Suit To Vacate Governorship
A Maryland court orders Governor Spiro T. Agnew to show cause within 30 days why his office should not be vacated due to alleged vacancy by death resignation or removal. The suit, by Taxpayers Under the Maryland Constitution, seeks to trigger succession rules if Agnew is absent from the state during the campaign period. Agnew later said he has no intention of resigning and will delegate duties while remaining in office.
