Russia Rejects U S Nuclear Fission Bid in Geneva
In Geneva the United States offered an immediate disarmament plan to halt fissionable material production for bombs. The Soviet delegate Semyon Tsarapkin rejected the proposal as unacceptable saying it is not a genuine disarmament measure. The plan followed the Moscow treaty signing and proposed diverting stockpiled uranium-235 to peaceful uses with a swap of 60 000 kilograms for 40 000 kilograms.
