Linguists Study Peruvian Tribes For U S Institute Work
Americans work with Peruvian tribes under the Summer Institute of Linguistics, living in jungle and mountains for months at a time. Researchers endure isolation, superstitions, and varying tribal cultures while teaching literacy and civics, with field and study phases alternating. Doris Cox and Loretta Anderson join the Shapra tribe, where the chief adopts them as daughters for protection.
