Public Schools Defy Ruling On Prayer And Bible Readings
A UPI survey finds many U.S. public schools continue prayer and Bible reading despite the Supreme Court ruling. Defiance is strongest in the South with Alabama’s board embedding Bible reading. New Jersey and Massachusetts show mixed adherence. Authorities note the ruling bans state sponsored exercises even when optional. Many say objective Bible study remains appropriate, while several states maintain current practices or interpret the decision as permitting voluntary observances.
