Nixon faces protests in India during Gandhi memorial visit

Demonstrations against Nixon accompanied his arrival in India with crowds in Calcutta and Hyderabad. Police kept him safe as 400 protesters waved black flags and shouted anti war slogans while he greeted supporters and laid a wreath near Gandhi's memorial. A Secret Service officer pulled Nixon to safety after a toppled barrier.

Hijacked TWA Flight 79 Flew to Havana From Indianapolis

An air piracy incident see page details as a Trans World Airlines jet carrying 33 Indianapolis passengers and 23 aboard Oakland bound to Los Angeles was hijacked over Oklahoma. The crew reported a passenger in the cockpit and the plane diverted to Havana, arriving at Jose Marti Airport. FBI and FAA traced boarding passengers in Indianapolis while lists named Frederick Hadley and others among those on the hijacked flight.

Infant dies after car truck crash near Elwood

Four month old Shawna Marie Hinelick died of injuries from a car truck collision north of Elwood early Wednesday evening. Her parents and maternal grandmother were treated for injuries and the driver Farrell Beckley and his son escaped hospitalization. Funeral services for the infant were set for Saturday at Copher and Fesler Funeral Home. Burial is Knox Chapel Cemetery. The accident occurred at the intersection of County Road 1700N and Indiana 13. Authorities cited Beckley failing to see the Himelick vehicle at the stop sign.

Archaeology at Mounds Park Uncovers 9th Century Ornaments

Kent Vickery and team from Linlek University excavating Mounds Park report seven artifacts from the Great Mound area.
