Kennedy attacks worsen racial strife claims in Senate hearing
Mississippi's chief legal officer accused President Kennedy and Attorney General Robert Kennedy of using office to incite racial violence. He charged Justice Department agents aid unrest while Patterson criticized the administration as responsible for nationwide racial troubles. The testimony occurred during a Senate Commerce Committee session on a public accommodations bill. Georgia's Gov. Carl E. Sanders also spoke against the measure.
