In Madison Circuit Court agencies filed affidavits charging Philip Craig alias Robert Thompson age 24 of Bedford with assault and battery with intent to kill in the shooting of Anderson Officer Morris Carpenter Wednesday night during a routine investigation. Also charged were Leo Elden Davis age 20 and Howard R. Roach age 24 for second degree burglary and autobanditry in a separate affidavit.
Montgomery Ward and Co stockholders voted at an annual meeting in Chicago delaying a full shift in power. Avery claimed over 70 percent of votes to keep control while Louis Wolfson said he could help secure three or four director seats next year.

A schedule for Salk polio vaccine shots for 3 611 Anderson pupils was announced by Dr. Charteen and PTA official Helena Austin. The program named Anderson School students in the first four grades from Leach Linwood and nearby areas to receive shots at North Anderson School on Monday with no booster shots this month and makeup shots in May.
County officials plan to request 10000 for two Civil Defense and emergency vehicles nicknamed Calamity Janes. The funds would be the county share in a federal matching program, aiding the local civil defense organization with rescue and disaster equipment ahead of a special council meeting next month.
