Evidence in Wollam first degree murder trial begins
Madison Circuit Court opened the first degree murder trial of Jerry L Wollam 35 of Lapel for the March 21 1975 shooting death of his former wife Candy J Wollam 27 at her apartment. Prosecutor Lawler outlined the case stating the gun had four head shots from a sawed off 22 caliber shotgun purchased by Wollam amid alleged marital strife. Defense argued Wollam’s lack of malice and claimed the shooting was unplanned and caused by tensions over the dead woman's relationships. Detectives and a patrolman described the apartment scene including a blood stain brain tissue shell casings and weapon similarity to the shotgun found at the scene.
