Middle schoolers pilot robotic surgery at UCI center
Colin Alexander, 13, and 22 peers from Boys & Girls Clubs of Anaheim and Brooklyn’s Beginning with Children Charter School join UC Irvine’s Middle School Exchange Program. In a basement lab at UCI Medical Center they operate Da Vinci robotic tools under green lights in a timed laparoscopic exercise. The event aims to expose students to surgical careers and healthy eating education from real surgeons. Colin expresses interest in the field saying it was fun and he might pursue it as a job.
